Friday Stories: Birthday Gifts

For my eighth birthday, I got rollerblades and a chem lab from my mom and dad. Mitch got me a Fantastic Four game for Game Boy. I got a gift card for Target from Grandma Antognini and Grandpa Kent for $25 and I picked out a Star Wars Lego game for Game Boy and a Spy Watch XP-6. It had world time, alarm, night vision, an infrared scope, and a couple other features that I can't remember. It had at least twelve features. From Heidi and Dan and William and Wes, I got a science kit that I've been wanting for ages. I got the Littlest Pet Shop pup from Mommy and Daddy. It came with a pup and a treasure map, a treasure chest, a shovel, and a chew toy. I got a remote control kit for TV from Mom and Dad. I got Trivial Pursuit for Kids from Mom and Dad also. I got a Transformer from Angie and a book that said, Do You Doodle? I got a Expert Jumper parachute guy from Gumdrop and an outer space book and I got a Super Hero DVD from Gumball.

I went to the Mall of America for my birthday. We went to Mall of America on the 17th. I wanted to go to it on the 18th, but the field trip to the Mall of America was on the 17th. We went to Underwater World. At Underwater World, they had a tunnel where you got to walk through and look at the fish. The glass walls were so clean, it looked like you were actually by the fish. We saw sawfish, sharks, guitar sharks, stingrays, yellow puffer fish, sand sharks, and more that I can't remember. Dad and me got to have a behind-the-scene tour. We got to see where they feed the fish and also learned that an iguana has two eyes where we have it, and an eye right in the middle of its head. The littlest turtle took five people to lift it if they had to weigh him or if it was sick, to move it into a different place. I got rocks for my souvenir.

I got to look in Motor Madness. It's a place where you get to build remote control cars. At Motor Madness, you got to build a car. You got to pick out the body, the wheels, how it looked, you could put on stickers. I've never seen a store where you can build your own remote control cars. You also get to use real power tools. I didn't get a remote control car 'cause each car costs fifty dollars to make it.

We also went to Lego Land. I got to pick out a Bionicle and so did Mitch.

Friday Stories: Mystery Mouse House

Once upon a time there was a little gingerbread house with an upstairs, a downstairs, and another upstairs. It was three stories high.

Two little mice lived in there but nobody knew, because whenever they looked in, the mice were hiding under the bed. When they walked past it, or when they were in bed, they heard little giggles and chattering, and they couldn't figure out what it was.

One day, the child who made the house looked and found the mice. And he became best friends with them. The mice had a baby mouse. They named it Max. They had great fun.

People found out one day about the three mice but couldn't figure out where their home was. So they kept looking and looking but they never found it. The child gave them hints every day but they never figured out what it was.

One day the parents found out where the mice lived. So the child had to make them another gingerbread house and a hiding place and he also hid the gingerbread house. And the mice lived happily ever after.

Friday Stories: Mysterious Mystery Manor

Once, a long, long time ago, there was a city called Spooksville. Every year, kids went trick-or-treating to every house but one. That was Mystery Manor.

It had booby traps all over the yard, but also had the best candy. Only the most daring of kids went to Mystery Manor.

Once, a kid, eight years old, went inside and got super powers and had lots of candy. But one thing the kids didn't understand was that nobody was at the house when they got candy from Mystery Manor. But what they didn't know was that it was a ghost haunting it. Every year, five kids turned into ghosts because of the candy.

The ghost planned to make thousands of houses to overpower the little town. But that would take many years. The ghost didn't give up. He put more ghost powers into the candy so it would work faster. Nobody knew how it kept happening, but once they found out, they started building their support more and more.

And finally it happened. The battle lasted for ten years and then it was over. The people won.

Friday Stories: The Haunted Cave

Once upon a time, two twelve year-olds once discovered a cave. So they went and took a look and found that it was haunted. They also knew that it had great treasures in but they were afraid of the ghosts that lived in the cave.

So they built a robot that would go and it could stand up to anything. It had a camera and it shrunk stuff with a laser beam so it could carry it. It had a little pouch to put the treasures in.

They realized that they could hook up a wire to the robot so they could see where it is and tell it what to do. But they never saw how far the robot went. So they wouldn't know how long of a cable. But they did know that it must be pretty long. So they got a ten-mile cable. They bought a cable that was ten miles long. The robot also had a drill to drill through walls and a camera that could see through walls to see where the treasure is. After a couple months, the two twelve year-olds were billionaires.

The cave had thousands of stalagmites. Stalagmites are a kind of icicle, only though made out of minerals. The deepest pool in the cave was a hundred feet deep. It was a hundred degrees below zero. You could smell the ice.

One day, when the robot went in very far, it broke. So they did with the money that they earned and made a new one, only though this time, more fancy. The robot drilled deeper and deeper and suddenly hit a giant treasure pit and made a ladder so the two twelve year-olds could climb down and grab all the treasure. The two twelve year-olds had to make a hundred robots to carry up all the treasure. Each robot could fit a hundred pieces of treasure in it.

But what they didn't know is that the robot triggered a lava vein and the pit filled with lava and froze all the treasures. The twelve year-olds and fifty of the robots escaped. They were wishing the other fifty had escaped but they didn't complain. They still were rich. Also, that lava vein triggered heaps of other ones around the globe. It flooded all the underground caves.

Friday Stories: Ghost Pirates Attack!

Once upon a time, there was a ghostly pirate ship that carried thousands of dollars' worth of treasures. The ghost pirate ship sailed the seven seas in 1999.

The ghost pirates used an old, old, old castle for a hideout. It wasn't long before other pirates discovered their castle and the battle lasted ten years. They had cannons and other sorts of pirate weapons. They also invented a cannon that could shoot out swords.

The pirate captain was named Skull Moon Scar. He was the most powerful ghost pirate on the whole ship. Not even the bravest pirate would face him. He was also the most spookiest pirate. He had four gunpowder guns and two swords. He raided every ship he saw, then sunk it. His nickname was Raider Sink.

Then he came face to face with the next most powerful pirate: Scary Skull. The battle lasted five weeks. Finally, Skull Moon Scar won the battle and raided Scary Skull's ship and sank it. But before Scary Skull went under, he said these last couple words: You haven't seen the last of me!

Friday Stories: Story Starter

Editor's Note: Max began his blog in tears today because he said he had no words in his head today. When I replied that his head was full of words, he said, "They're in a traffic jam." The sentence below is a story starter to break up that terrible traffic jam.

Today we went shopping and Mom bought me a pair of magic shoes ...

We went to Stride Rite and they said, "Would you like to get a pair of new Magical Power Shoes? They cost twenty dollars and it has pockets and it has little tablets that come with it and you just get it wet in a glass of water and it pops right out and turns into a Game Boy. Also, if you put another tablet in, if you write on in what kind of a Game Boy game you want on the tablet, it will get what Game Boy game you want out of the separate tablet."

"And it also comes with a pack of a thousand tablets and each shoe has one pocket on each side and each one can hold twenty-five of the tablets."

So Mommy says "yes" to getting the shoes and we take them home and we realize that they had jet packs built in the shoes. You also put a tablet in the grass and it would turn into a whole stand of lemonade and each glass of lemonade is only fifty cents.

All of that started when I put on the brand-new shoes. I also figured out that I could be invisible and I could just say the name of the toy and it would be right in front of me in the the box, brand-new, never been used. When I put the shoes on, the very moment, I had super powers. I could fly, I could travel back in time, I could travel from inside to outside without breaking anything or using the door, and I could also make something else invisible ... only invisible for other people, but not me! Like if Mom said I couldn't watch TV, I could make the TV show black for Mom, but it was really on for me. ("I could really get you, couldn't I?" said Max.)

We got them for a really, really, really, really low price !!! You can take off your shoes and then a little pocket appears on each side with a zipper. You can put money or little toys in there.

When you put them on, you can shift into different people!

Friday Stories: Garage Sale Shopping

Note: Friday Stories are creative writing exercises we enjoy each Friday as part of our homeschool curriculum. Stories are composed by the boys and typed by Mom.

We went to a garage sale today in our neighborhood. I got this cool spy set, that it has three motion detectors. It has a little antenna on it. I also have three little dots on the package that they light up whenever somebody walks past it and it goes, "Doot, doot, doot, doot ... doot, doot!" like an alarm, and then I know if somebody passed it and then I could see what they are doing. The spy set cost twenty-five cents.

I also got a Polly Pocket car with Polly Pocket accessories. We also got a fake plastic jewel. I got a red one and Mitchell got a blue one. I also got a mini Palm Pilot for free. Mitchell also got a Palm Pilot for free. And Mitchell also got a mini spy set too, because it's not a very big one.

I am going to earn my spy set by doing errands. Doing errands means my mom gives me something and I put it away.

We went up to the park after we went to the garage sales. I went down the slide four times. I went down the parallel bars two times. And I also ran. And our friend William rode up to the park with his tractor. We got there ten minutes before William did. I rode my bike up to the park also and I rode my bike to all the garage sales. We felt some sprinkles and went home. Thirty minutes later, it started to pour.

Friday Stories: What I Learned About Our Solar System

Note: Friday stories are creative writing exercises we enjoy each week as
part of our homeschool curriculum. Below are the Lego King's actual
words, as typed by his mom, summarizing our recent study of the solar
system. His thoughts are his own and he was not prompted to remember any
of the information.

NASA will crash a rocket into the moon in 2009. Mitchell will be five when they launch it. I will be nine. It will break up a huge chunk of the moon so they can see if there is actually frozen water on the side where the sun never shines. They’re going to launch it a second time. They’ll launch the second one in 2009 also.

Even though it doesn’t look like Saturn has very many rings, it actually has thousands of rings.

Did you know that Jupiter could fit all the planets into it? There would be lots of room left over.

Venus has storm clouds so the sun’s light reflects on it and you can only see it on certain days of the year and it shines in the daytime like a star even though it’s not a star. The ancient Romans called Venus the goddess of love.

Earth has air, water, food, and life, unlike all the other planets. If the asteroid keeps going in the horseshoe shape, it could become one of Earth’s moons. It will become Earth’s second moon.

Did you know that scientists think that Mars used to have water on? That’s why it’s called the red planet. The water sort of rusted up the surface of it.

Did you know that Neptune probably had a meteor crash into it to make it rotate sideways?

Pluto is the smallest planet of all. Pluto is the ninth planet. Some people say that Pluto isn’t a planet.

The sun is 28 million degrees in the center. The sun spots are the coolest thing on the sun. The sun is a star.

Binary stars, the little one is actually more powerful than the big one. It keeps taking the big one’s hydrogen and then when it takes almost all of it, it says, I don’t need it. So it spits it out and creates a new star.
